HOME SWEET HOLCOMBE! - THE NEWLY-OPENED GASTRONOMIC SOMERSET GEM

  • Recently upgraded 11-bedroom restaurant with rooms located in the village of Holcombe, Somerset

  • Gastronomy is a focus of owners’ Alan and Caroline; professional chefs focused on providing guests with an exciting food offering that is both locally sourced and sustainable

Located in the heart of Somerset, just 30 minutes from Bath, The Holcombe is a recently upgraded 17th century grade II listed restaurant with 11 bedrooms. It is set on the highest point of a small parish in the northeast of the Mendip Hills with views across to Downside Abbey.

Recently opened following an extensive upgrade, which was overseen by designer Annabelle Holland, The Holcombe is owned and run by Alan Lucas and Caroline Gardiner, both trained chefs passionate about growing food, sourcing locally from artisan producers & protecting the environment.

After 30 years spent running successful London based catering & event companies, Alan and Caroline decided to “escape to the country” and bought The Holcombe Inn in November 2019. COVID-19 restrictions forced their closure just a few months later and whilst closed, they took the opportunity to renovate and rebrand as The Holcombe.

Commenting on its opening, owner Caroline Gardiner said: “The Holcombe is all about affordable luxury and is a great location for exploring Somerset. Through our recent redecoration we not only offer great house amenities but focus on a garden to plate dining experience.

“On purchasing The Holcombe, our vision was for it to be a beautiful country Inn, concentrating on affordable luxury and delicious food, home grown in our kitchen garden and sourced from local suppliers.

“We are delighted to now be open and certainly hope visitors to The Holcombe can have an unforgettable stay and enjoy seasonal contemporary dining in our beautiful setting.”

The 11 bedrooms at The Holcombe all slightly differ in style and size with a set up also in place for families wishing to have two rooms connected by a small entrance hallway. The Holcombe also caters for guests wishing to bring dogs with two lodges set within the garden grounds.

Both Caroline and Alan, along with their team, are passionate about sustainability and are focused on reducing food waste by using as much as they can of everything they purchase. They source local, free-range produce, and work with suppliers to reduce as much of the plastic packaging as possible, encouraging everything to be packed in paper. They have also endeavoured to buy furniture, linens and tableware from The British Isles.

The key focus of The Holcombe is the kitchen garden and poly tunnel which takes over the majority of the gardens - their passion has always been to grow more and deliver a fantastic garden to plate experience. The RHS trained gardeners work tirelessly, alongside Alan, to deliver ingredients that make for a great menu and prior to opening more raised beds were installed to enable year-round growing.

The Holcombe endeavours to use all produce - if it’s not on guests’ plates it will be added into stocks. Homemade infusions for gins and vodkas are also produced using ingredients from the garden.

PAULCAMPER LAUNCHES ‘HAPPY CAMPER CARDS’ FOR BEGINNER CAMPERVANNERS

  • Collection of cards will be available in rental motorhomes and campervans

  • Cards can be placed in the window to assist those new to campervanning to easily ask for help, whilst more seasoned travellers can use them to offer help to other campers

PaulCamper, Europe’s largest online platform for campervan and motorhome sharing, has launched a collection of ‘Happy Camper Cards’ designed to support those new to campervanning.

With staycations all the rage, and travellers broadening their horizons to new travel experiences including campervanning, PaulCamper has seen a shift in the demographic of those renting campervans and motorhomes. Previously, seasoned travellers would make up the majority of renters however in recent months this has shifted to include a larger proportion of first time campervanners.

In response to this, and recognising how daunting some aspects of campervanning may seem to a first timer, PaulCamper has devised the ‘Happy Camper cards’ to be placed on the dashboard of the campervan or motorhome where they will be in easy view of other campers and carry the slogans;

  • Hey! We are new here and would love any help or tips you can give us.

  • Hey! We are seasoned campers and happy to help. Please just ask if you are struggling with anything!

  • Hey neighbour! We are happy to chat so if you fancy it just come and say hello.

Steven Hagenah, UK Country Lead for PaulCamper said; “We know those new to campervanning sometimes find aspects of it daunting so I am excited to be launching our Happy Camper Cards today so British holidaymakers newly interested in camping holidays can feel confident in booking with us.

“The pandemic and associated lockdowns have changed travel views and attitudes with campervan holidays quickly becoming one of the top choices for British travellers when considering travel options. With this though comes a proportion of our customer base who may feel concerned about certain aspects of campervanning such as connecting to a water supply at the campsite or changing a chemical toilet.

“I really hope our Happy Camper Cards are not only embraced but that they become common place across campsites up and down the UK. I am sure renters travelling in one of our diverse range of motorhomes and campervans will be pleased at their presence and will be happy to use them in order to get the help they need or, if a more seasoned camper, to be able to help others.”

PaulCamper has a range of campervans and motorhomes of different styles available to rent to explore the UK. To browse the full collection or to book a camper visit https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/

PaulCamper is also encouraging campervan and motorhome owners to consider joining them. Listing your vehicle with PaulCamper couldn’t be easier online in a few simple steps. The owner decides the price, and there’s a team of experts on hand, should you need them, to assist you along the way and to help perfect the perfect profile. The owner is paid on the first day of the rental and when renting your Campervan out with PaulCamper it is fully insured via Allianz. If you’re looking for extra earning potential, and your motorhome or campervan is sitting in a garage or on a drive, unused, PaulCamper could just be the answer. To rent out their camper, owners should visit https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-out-campervan/ and select list your campervan.

CHOICE HOTELS EXPANDS PORTFOLIO WITH CONTINUATION OF SEERA GROUP MASTER LICENCE AGREEMENT AND UPCOMING OPENINGS IN SAUDI ARABIA

  • Agreement continues, with at least ten hotels planned to open within the next five years

Choice Hotels Europe has repositioned itself as Choice Hotels EMEA as it continues its master license agreement with Seera Hospitality, a fully owned subsidiary of Seera Holding Group, the largest publicly listed travel company in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, to open at least ten hotels in the Kingdom within the next five years.

Seera is at the forefront of travel and tourism recovery efforts in the Kingdom and beyond, and as part of the agreement, currently there are several identified projects for Choice Hotels brands throughout Saudi Arabia in various stages of development.

The first three properties – Clarion Jeddah Airport, Comfort King Road Jeddah, and Comfort Olaya Riyadh – are due to open at the end of this year and are available to pre-book now.

Clarion Hotel Jeddah Airport has 200 rooms and is located on the Prince Majid Road, just three minutes away from the new King Abdul-Aziz International Airport and Jeddah Airport Train Station. It is easily accessible from the Jeddah City Centre and also located close to the Mall of Arabia, one of the biggest shopping centres in Jeddah.

The Comfort King Road, with 125 extended stay suites, is located in one of the most prominent areas of Jeddah and in close proximity to the Jeddah Corniche, Jeddah International Airport, and the Madinah Road.

The Comfort Olaya Riyadh is located in Olaya, in one of the most prized locations in the city’s central business district near the iconic Kingdom Tower.  The hotel boasts 97 well-appointed extended stay suites, as well as a rooftop lounge with unique views of the Riyadh skyline.

Commenting on the agreement, Choice Hotels EMEA CEO, Jonathan Mills said: “I’m excited to continue this master license agreement in Saudi Arabia and welcoming Seera group and the forthcoming properties to our portfolio.

“With these openings, we reposition our division as Choice Hotels EMEA, further supporting our growth strategy and focus on investing in our business for our stakeholders.

“We are the only global hotel company to enter the Middle East market through Saudi Arabia, a country placing a substantive focus on developing travel and tourism. By entering the region together with a strong hospitality group, we strive to increase Choice Hotels footprint in the region. We have been focused on this approach for some time, so I am pleased to be continuing this agreement today.

“I look forward to the first properties opening within the third quarter of this year and am sure our guests will be excited by their offerings.”

Majed Alnefaie, CEO of Seera Group said: “Saudi Arabia is recording transformational growth through path-breaking initiatives, including a focus on strengthening the entire tourism sector. Together with Choice Hotels EMEA, we aim to set new standards in the Middle East hospitality sector. Across our portfolio of travel brands, Seera Group has several platforms to promote travel and tourism to achieve the Kingdom’s vision and this agreement continues to be a great step towards realising that vision.”

Shuja Zaidi, Seera Chief Hospitality Officer said: “Our new Clarion and Comfort hotels are setting new standards for the next generation of hotels in the region.  The design of these new hotels has engaged state-of-the-art technology blended with Arabian hospitality to introduce unique and best-in-class product in the Middle Eastern markets. In teaming with Choice Hotels, we found the perfect collaborator to achieve these goals.”

The announcement comes shortly after Helen ter Beek, Senior Director Commercial and Operation, and Edwin Broers, Director Deployment Operations, joined the Choice Hotels Leadership team, bringing a wealth of hotel operational and commercial experience. Helen oversees all commercial activities as well as deployment services for Choice Hotels’ partners, with Edwin leading the operational onboarding of all new partners including Seera Group.

GOING OFF GRID - PAULCAMPER UNVEILS 10 OF THE BEST OFF-GRID STAYCATION LOCATIONS TO EXPLORE IN A MOTORHOME OR CAMPERVAN

  • Range of campers available to rent to explore remote locations starting from £100 a night

  • PaulCamper would also like owners to join them

Whilst technology is a key part of our lives, between social media feeds, work video calls, and streaming box sets it can sometimes become too much so PaulCamper, Europe’s largest online platform for motorhome and campervan sharing, has handpicked a selection of the UK's best off-the-grid locations. In the locations picked, phone reception is poor at best, and the remote surroundings are ideal for escaping it all so there’s plenty of scope for using a motorhome or campervan this summer and beyond to explore the UK.

Ettrick, Scotland - Sitting on the Scottish border, Ettrick valley is a beautiful and mostly undiscovered part of the Scottish borders. There are peaceful hiking trails for all ages and abilities and a variety of outdoor pursuits such as horse riding, fishing, cycle touring and mountain biking, watersports and paragliding.   Explore Ettrick in Rimor Seal based in Glasgow https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/glasgow/rimor-seal-50-42171/

Alwinton, Northumberland - Located ten miles to the northwest of Rothbury, at the head of the Coquet valley, this Northumberland village has beautiful riverside walking trails once frequented by shepherds, whisky smugglers, drovers and pedlars. It is a small but vibrant community and at the heart is its pub; the aptly named Rose and Thistle. The pub brings together the national emblems from both sides of the Border. Previously known at Allenton, it is a great starting point for walks on the Border Ridge and there are also some fantastic horse-riding routes in the Coquet Valley around Alwinton, which are perfect for mountain bikers too. Alwinton Car Park is a designated Dark Sky Discovery Site. Its uniquely dark skies mean it’s the perfect place to indulge in some stargazing.    Explore Alwinton in Oz based in Newcastle upon Tyne https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/newcastle-upon-tyne/oz-41324/

Rosedale Abbey, Yorkshire - Rosedale Abbey is located in the heart of the Yorkshire Moors National Park and offers stunning views of fantastic landscapes. Rosedale is perfect for peace and quiet, beauty, fresh air, great walking, good food, culture and it is also steeped in history.    Explore Rosedale Abbey in Belle, based in Wetherby https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/wetherby/belle-40768/

Stonybreck, Fair Isle -  Fair Isle is the most remote inhabited island in the United Kingdom and lies 24 miles from the Shetland Mainland and 27 miles from North Ronaldsay, the most northerly of the Orkney islands. Stonybreck is the largest settlement on Fair Isle and is known for its bird observatory. This lovely location, which is an important breeding ground for seabirds and a stopping-off point for migrant species, provides some great views.    Explore Stonybreck in Spoot, an electric campervan based in Orkney - https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/orkney/spoot-38674/

Eskdale Valley, Lake District -  Eskdale is the valley, stretching from Gosforh near Seascale on the West Coast of Cumbria, through to the foot of Hardknott Pass. It is close to Scafell – England’s highest mountain and the valley is notable as being one of few major valleys in the Lake District not to have its own lake, although several tarns are perched above the valley sides. There is an ancient mill, art galleries, waterfalls, the River Esk winding its way through the valley, several pubs and fantastic countryside for walks.    Explore Eskdale Valley in Reiver, Brampton Northumberland https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/brampton/reiver-43878/

Steven Hagenah, UK Country Lead for PaulCamper said; “The Great British staycation is firmly back, and after so long stuck indoors and juggling video calls, social media and TV streaming, there’s no better time to get in a campervan or motorhome, hit the open road, and explore the great outdoors.

“In many of our handpicked locations there’s little or no wi-fi, but even with that you’ll find no better connections when you are switching off from the complexities of modern life.

“We hope many of our campers renting a motorhome or campervan this summer will enjoy time without the distraction of phones, internet, TV or – if they choose – other people. Camping provides the best opportunities to truly unwind, de-stress and enjoy the peace and rejuvenating effects of the great outdoors and all it has to offer with its nature and wildlife.”

“We have a diverse range of motorhomes and campervans available so whether a seasoned camper or new to the experience, I hope they have a great summer of camping ahead.”

GO GREEN WITH PAULCAMPER IN ORKNEY

  • Rent “Spoot” Scotland’s only all-electric Campervan with PaulCamper

  • Book an Eco-friendly and sustainable Nomadic holiday

  • Guilt-free travelling

With nearly all overseas holiday destinations on either the amber or red travel list, there’s never been a better time to rent a Campervan to explore some of the UK’s most beautiful areas, and Orkney is no exception.

PaulCamper, Europe’s largest online platform for motorhome and campervan sharing, has added an electric Campervan to its UK portfolio. This newest signing is based in Orkney and called Spoot - the Orcadian name for a razor clam.

This Nissan Dalbury E was the world’s first all-electric camper van and, on a full charge, can easily cover up to 120 miles. Also, with a rapid charge in just 30 minutes at one of the 30 charging points in Orkney, you can quickly add a further 80 miles, so running low on charge never needs to be a worry.

Spoot is a great option for fun days out and a comfortable night's sleep - and it's environmentally friendly too. Holidaying in a Campervan gives you cooking facilities on hand, a warm shelter and this all-electric Camper means no costly fill-ups at the petrol pump.

By combining electric vehicle hire and accommodation you'll reduce your holiday costs. You can pitch at one of Orkney's many campsites or travel that bit further to mainland Scotland - the choice is yours. Equipment and bedding is included, while car seats can be provided for little travellers and attached using Isofix brackets.

If gadgets are your thing, then you’ll just love Spoot! This Campervan comes with air conditioning, a 39-litre fridge which hooks up to the 12v electrics, a solar panel and a rearview camera, making parking so much easier. It also has a pop-top, a fold-out table and a comfy sleeping area.

With interest in campervanning at an all-time high, the Highland Council has temporarily relaxed licensing rules to allow landowners to offer continental-style motorhome stopovers called Airigh. Many of these sites are free – an even better reason to head to this beautiful area.

With so many things to explore in Orkney, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Spoot’s owners love to visit the village of Evie which is located at the northern end of mainland Orkney looking out across Eynhallow Sound towards the island of Rousay.

Eynhallow sound and its emerald sapphire coloured water with beautiful golden beaches makes it a top spot to relax or take a dip in the sea.

Alternatively, head over to the bronze age settlement, The Broch of Gurness – a village which began between 500 BC and 200 BC.

Orkney is also a great place to see the Northern Lights, so if you’ve always fancied seeing the Aurora Borealis, make sure to visit in Autumn or Winter. Orkney really is an all-year round destination.

Paul Hudd, one of Spoots’ owners said; “We have always tried to run our business in a sustainable way and using electric vehicles seemed the way to go.

“We chose PaulCamper as we were aware of their European presence and were super excited to hear that they had launched in the UK.

“As things get back to normal we will look forward to welcoming European visitors too. The team at PaulCamper have been really friendly and easy to deal with and in spite of its newness the site has been easy to manage and load our vehicles details.

“We're looking forward to a long relationship.”

INTRODUCING MAISON AGORA

Located in the heart of the Dordogne, Maison Agora is an authentic sandstone French country house whose interior combines traditional and modern elements.  Accommodating twelve, the house has recently been renovated and is newly available for rental having previously been a private residence.

The house sits in a one-acre garden and benefits from panoramic views of the French countryside which are enhanced by a small 12th century church next door. Whilst not in active use aside from occasional events, it still traditionally sounds its church bell three times a day – somewhat rare for churches in small French villages.

Maison Agora has six bedrooms, three bathrooms and two large living areas as well as a large 12x5 meter heated saltwater swimming pool. There are also multiple dining settings throughout the property all of which seat twelve including indoors, on an elevated terrace by the pool under a cast-iron Italian pergola with bamboo cover or under a large tree in the garden. The house also has a BBQ on the terrace.

The property has been beautifully renovated, while preserving many of the features of this former rectory.  The authentic architecture of the building, the thick walls of exposed stone characteristic of the region, wooden beamed ceilings, terracotta floors and antique piano capturing the atmosphere of times gone by and providing a homely and warm ambience.

Commenting on its opening, owner Judith Van Bergen said: “Maison Agora is in a great location for exploring the Dordogne and through its recent renovation not only offers great house amenities but has retained its rustic charm.

“On purchasing Maison Agora, meaning 'gathering place' our vision was for it to be a place where social life takes place, where people come together and relax and to provide a welcome and authentic French retreat for families or friends looking to connect and spend some quality time together.

“We are delighted to now be open and certainly hope visitors to Maison Agora can do just that and have an unforgettable holiday in our beautiful setting the Dordogne.”

Maison Agora also has a range of additions available for guests including a local bakery delivery, a private chef for a luxury dinner experience and bike rentals as well as reservations at a local restaurant or  grocery delivery for the day of arrival. Prices are available on request at the time of booking.  Additionally, Maison Agora also wants guests four-legged friends to feel welcome and is dog friendly permitting up to two dogs per booking upon request at no additional charge.

PAULCAMPER LAUNCHES IN THE UK

  • Online platform enables UK motorhome and campervan owners to easily and safely rent their vehicles

  • Diverse portfolio of motorhomes and campervans available to hire for UK staycation

PaulCamper, Europe’s largest online platform for motorhome and campervan sharing, has today launched in the UK providing motorhome and campervan owners the opportunity to rent their much-loved vehicles to renters for staycations.

The diverse portfolio, available at https://paulcamper.co.uk gives holidaymakers the option to hire motorhomes and campervans that suit their style and taste at an affordable price.

Prospective campers can hire a camper from as little as one night starting from £70.00. All rentals include fully comprehensive insurance and roadside assistance provided by the AA.

Owners opting to rent out their vehicles via PaulCamper not only benefit from securing a rental income but can also be confident in building a connection with friendly, reliable renters.

PaulCamper was born out of CEO Dirk Fehse’s personal experience of exploring Australia in a rented camper. Upon his return to Germany, he purchased his own campervan - a VWT4 christened "Paul". To finance running costs and insurance, Dirk rented out “Paul” when he wasn't out exploring with him and "PaulCamper" was born.

Commenting on the UK launch CEO Dirk Fehse said; “I am excited to launch PaulCamper in the UK today, offering British holidaymakers a range of new and exciting staycation options for this coming summer and beyond.

“I started PaulCamper back in 2013 renting out my own camper “Paul” in order to reduce the running costs and was excited by the idea of making camping possible for those who didn’t want to buy their own motorhome.

“Motorhomes and campervans can be expensive to maintain, coupled with the fact they are often used for just a few weeks a year, spending the rest of the time in the owners garage. It is for this reason I hope UK owners will feel confident in our established offering and choose to rent their campers with us. By way of assurance, in the beginning I too had concerns about entrusting my precious VW to strangers, but in all these years I have only had good experiences.

“Whether a seasoned camper or new to the experience, I hope UK renters will be excited by PaulCamper’s diverse range of motorhomes and campervan’s available for their staycations and I wish them happy camping!”

To book a camper, prospective renters visiting https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-campervan/ select their preferred camper from the diverse portfolio and send an enquiry to the owner. After discussion, either on the chat facility or by phone, a rental offer is issued and, once both parties agree, the booking is confirmed.

To rent out their camper, owners should visit https://paulcamper.co.uk/rent-out-campervan/ and select list your campervan.

Commenting on the launch, owners Paul and Mel Nash who are renting Bluebell and Bertie out said: "Over the years we’ve built up our Bluebell Farm holiday cottages and, to further enable visitors to have their very own Somerset adventure, we now rent out our two campervans Bluebell and Bertie with PaulCamper.

"We were impressed that PaulCamper is the leading Camper sharing platform in Europe and as an owner that infrastructure was important to us. It’s imperative anyone renting Bluebell or Bertie has a professional, quick and hassle-free experience and we’re confident PaulCamper’s European experience combined with their first-class customer service will offer this to both us and our potential guests.”

The current UK portfolio, which is increasing rapidly as more owners join, comprises vehicles that accommodate everyone from a solo traveller to a family of six and vary in size from a little larger than a car to 8m long. They include an electric van on Orkney, a famous singer's race-team van conversion in the Peak District, one of the last classic T2 imports from Brazil in the South West, and brand-new motorhomes with all the latest gadgets.
